About The Editor

¡Hola! Bom dia! Bonjour! Kaixo! สวัสดี! ‘Sup?

Hi there! I’m Dave. I like languages. Lots of them. All of them, really. I like studying them, learning vocabulary, speaking languages while traveling to new places, and then promptly forgetting them once I return home.

But I’m working on learning more languages, but also retaining more of the languages I learn. And I want to talk about them, what I learn, what I use, the problems I face, the events I attend, the people I meet, and anything that comes to mind linguistically and/or multilingually.

Some of the languages I’m working on are: German, Spanish, French, Italian, Esperanto, Manx, Hungarian…the list goes on. I’m working on a number of “endangered” languages (there seems to be a bit of leeway when using this term to describe some languages), and I’ve slowly become involved with a few projects involving some of these languages. I’ve helped write children’s stories for Little Cree Books, I’ve helped transcribe Tunica texts for the Tunica-Tulane Language Project, and, most excitingly, I was a small-but-iconic voice in the Navajo dubbing of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. (And no, I was not Chewbacca or R2-D2! Why do people always ask me that?)

Now that I’ve now committed to a polyglot event in May, I’ll be working on my website and languages in the next few months, and I’ll be posting semi-regularly.

In any case, here are some gratuitous photos of some of the books in my collection (at least the ones with words on their spines), which proves absolutely nothing of my ability to speak or learn a language, but at least gives an indication of how obsessive I am about languages. And isn’t that really what matters?

Anyway, thanks for visiting my site. Next time, bring wine!
